Interesting Night..

I don’t understand people sometimes.

Driving home last night from the barn where my new horse is last night, I found a small cat on the side of the road.  I double-backed to get him, because had I not, a coyote could have gotten him or he could have gotten run over.  So I picked the kitty up and took him home with me.  He lived through the night, surprisingly, because we think his leg is broken or something.  He meows like crazy when he puts weight on it, so we’ve just been letting him sleep and trying to feed the little guy some milk.  Currently, he’s still snoozing on the couch.

What I don’t get is this.  The area I found him in has very few resedential areas, so the possibility that he ran away is kind of unlikely.  He could have gotten away from a coyote, but doesn’t have any scratches on his body.  Which leaves me to assume that he was dumped on the side of the road and was injured that way.  I didn’t feel comfortable leaving him out there to just die, which would probably have been the result had I left him there.

The awful part with all of this?  I don’t have the money to get him checked out by a vet.  I wish I did, but for the extent of things, he’d probably need x-rays and everything.  Also, our current cat is very much shy regarding other cats.  So even if I did pay for him to get fixed, we probably couldn’t keep him.  The other option is to bring him to the animal shelter, which not only doesn’t have appointments until next week, but also doesn’t accept animals without a fee of $40, which I can understand.  I could bring him to the animal control place here, which also poses a problem because if the animal has extensive vet work to be done, they will probably just put him to sleep.

So now I’m not quite sure what to do.  He isn’t eating a lot right now anyways, so I’m not sure how long as he’s going to last if not.  I don’t want to have him put down, but if he’s in pain it’s not right for him to have to suffer through it.

I’m not quite sure what to do in any case..

Finding Confidence

I seem to have found a new version of kryptonite for myself.  Obviously, I love having extra money to spend, and lately I’ve been looking to extend my wardrobe into something that Stacy and Clinton* would be proud of.  When I found out about a low-budget clothing store near to my area in the grand scheme of Chicagoland, I decided to check it out.

The upside is that there is so much stuff in the store itself, it’s insane trying to sort through what looks good and what doesn’t.  The downside is that the place doesn’t have any changing rooms, but they do have a great return policy so long as you keep tags on and it’s within 14 days.

So, off I go on my clothing quest the other night.  I ended up spending a little over a hundred dollars, but got 12 shirts, 4 of which I returned today to get fifty back.  In retrospect, I should have turned my little self around and walked out, but ended up spending another sixty.  You win some, you lose some.

Anyway, I’ve now ended up with 8 tops from the other day, plus 5 or 6 more from today.  So roughly 13 to 14 pieces, having spent less than a $120.  I think that’s a win.

Plus, in trying these garments on, I’ve figured what works for my body type and what just doesn’t.  Growing up, I had a rough time in finding clothes that fit and still looked “cool.”  I actually went through a phase where I wore sweatpants and t-shirts all the time.  I believe it was 7th grade, where I had a pair of sweatpants in just about every color.  Body image definitely played a part in me being as shy as I am, and actually still does.  So finding confidence in my own skin is definitely a step up from before.

Also, I’ve gained a new-found love of the television show, Ace of Cakes.  A-mazing!  Also, it comes with the perks of LOOKING at gorgeous cakes without the fat of actually EATING those cakes.

* Stacy and Clinton are my favorite people ever.  I’m a huge What Not to Wear fan – the show gives me ideas as to what works for me and how to shop better.  Without being humiliated on national-ish TV!  I’d call that a win.

I’ve Won an Award!

Whew, it’s been awhile! Sorry about the little unexpected hiatus, I’ve been really busy with work, horses, and trying to have a social life while my two best friends are in LA. I went to our town’s beer garden this past weekend which was a blast, except for the epic drama that followed. Apparently, drama is my middle name sometimes.

Anyways, I was tagged by For the Love of Pictures over at Boredom’s Bounty for the Honest Scrap Award. Thank you for the award!

The rules:

1) tell your readers 10 things about you that are true, that they might not know; and 2) tag 10 other bloggers to do the same

Here we go:

1) I love my friends.  I have the most diverse group of friends, and each and every one of them have been my rock when necessary and can make me laugh.  The best days are just hanging out with any one of them, even if it’s to do nothing.
2) I wish I were more artistic.  I would love to be a cake decorator (like on Ace of Cakes), but don’t possess the artistry their cakes have.  I can, however, bake a mean cake and am pretty good with making desserts.
3) I get wrapped up in way too many TV programs.  Especially reality programs!
4) I used to be a total tomboy up to a few years ago.  Now I tend to impress people with what I wear sometimes – I went from t-shirts and jeans to cute tank tops and, well, jeans of course.
5) I love a good personality more than good looks.  I mean, looks help but I like getting to know people instead of judging them right away.
6) I want to have another dog someday.  The dog I’ve had since I was 8 was put to sleep last September/October and I miss him a lot.
7) I ride horses.  A lot.  I compete in AQHA circuit – the weekend horse shows are my favorite thing to do when I can!
8) I want to hurry up and get to Pharmacy school, but financially I know I can’t afford it yet.  Which makes me sad but I know someday I’ll get there.
9) I want a new car but again, financially, can not do it at this time.  But when I get a car, I’d love to have a blue Honda Insight.  Having a car that helps the environment seems like a great investment.  I’d also love to have the Chevrolet Camaro or Dodge Challenger, but I feel like that won’t come until later in life.
10) I love writing.  I don’t do it as often anymore but I love being creative and having people read what I have to say and comment on it.  It gives me confidence in knowing that people do agree with me.

My 10 Tags:

I’m going to be a spoil sport and not tag anyone for this, because I think it’s a fun thing for every one to do!  So to all my favorite reads, and those I haven’t met yet: let me know if you complete this because I’d love to read it!

Hello world!

Hi everyone!  I’m currently working on my relocation from my Blogger to my new home here at WordPress.  I’ve gotten most of my posts from there to here, and am now trying to figure out how to move everything else.

4th of July (ie the most unimaginative blog title ever)

•July 4, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Currently I am waiting for some friends to get here to finish helping me get everything ready for the party I was throwing tonight. Unfortunately, only about 7 can make it total (so far) but it will be nice to have people over. However, it’s been a whirlwind cleaning spree, since I was supposed to start that yesterday but ended up going into work at 1 instead of 4. Which is still a bonus, considering it means extra hours for my paycheck on Thursday!

So I’ve been trading off cleaning and watching movies. The backyard is technically useless now anyway, because it’s been raining since early this morning. Also good because the lawn mower is currently useless too, and since my dad isn’t home to fix it, I have no way of mowing the lawn.

This may be the least prepared I’ve ever been for a party.

On a side note, everything is getting watered because of this rain, which is a bonus.

Anyway, since most of my cleaning is done, the last 20 minutes have been extremely productive. I set up coolers for water and pop, which are now inside thanks to this *awesome* weather. I also made a salad (by “made” I mean I put a bag of already-made salad and added cheese and garlic croutons) and this awesome fruit dip, which consists of marshmallow fluff and cream cheese. I also bought some cute tiki torch things for the backyard for some more light, but it looks like they won’t be necessary today.

Hope you all enjoy your holiday!

Weekend Update

•June 29, 2009 • Leave a Comment

This weekend’s update is going to be slightly jam-packed, which is good because it means I was busy. Also, it means I actually did more than just run around and do errands. Thirdly, I had an array of cute outfits to wear this weekend, with options to spare, which really makes me happy. I had another point, but I forget what that was. Anyway, on with the show..

Friday was pretty normal, between going to ride in the morning and having work in the evening. After work, however, we went to a bar and grill to attend a goodbye party for one of the managers who was transferred to another store. The bar was a lot of fun, I had 5 amaretto stone sours and drank my weight in water, but the company was great. It’s definitely nice to see how different people are once they’re out of uniform and in a bar. We closed down the bar at 2 in the morning and then went to one of the most disgusting bathrooms I’ve been to in my entire life and ate McDonald’s at 3 am. Definitely a great night!

Saturday was pretty much the same, though I slept til noon and was feeling a bit hungover. I ended up going to a graduation party last minute, which was pretty great. I got to see some people I haven’t seen in forever. I ate dinner there and hung out until I had to go pick up a friend. We played some Rock Band that night, which was okay.

Sunday I woke up super early and headed to my friend’s house to go to Chicago for the day. We went to the Pride parade which was fun. I ended up getting about 15 strands of beads from the parade, which was funny in its own right, because the boys kept asking me how I did that. I also, sadly, got a water bottle chucked at me which hit me right in the chest. And a water bottle, though it was a small one, thrown from a float with speed tends to hurt. The guy who threw it and the guy next to me both asked if I was okay, and gave me the bottle. It was interesting.

I also kept saying that Stacy and Clinton from What Not to Wear (one of my favorite shows) would probably have had a heart attack in seeing what some people were wearing. After the parade, we went to a friend’s apartment to hang out, eat, and sleep before going out for the evening. By the time we actually went out, we were all exhausted so it was an early evening (well, if you consider getting home at 2 am early). We drank some Peach Bombs (well, it was Bacardi Peach with Red Bull) which were amazing. Also, we pregamed with Apple Pie shots (everclear, apple juice, apple cider, and cinnamon) and some really delicious wine that they picked up in Oklahoma City a few weekends back.

All in all, it was a successful weekend I think. I may need a few more days to recover though!

Home again…

•June 11, 2009 • 1 Comment

So I’m finally back. With some great photos, great memories, and a few bruised ribs (don’t ask).

I guess everything can’t be perfect, ha.

And I really want to go back on vacation. Returning to work today was definitely not very fun, but so it goes….

We got to explore OKC on the last day, which was very pretty.

St Louis from the truck..
